How to Build an Athletic Rope Ladder
An athletic rope ladder is the perfect piece of equipment for agility and speed drills. They can be used to improve general fitness, or for sport-specific agility exercises. Building one yourself can afford a cheap alternative to commercial athletic rope ladders. Standard agility ladders range from 15 to 30 feet; this guide will walk you through making a 15-foot ladder with rungs 18 inches apart.

1
To make the first rung of the ladder, run the entire, 100-foot strand of rope through one piece of 1-inch PVC pipe (17 inches in length) until there is equal length of rope on both sides of the pipe. (In other words, the center of the 100-foot rope should be in the middle of the PVC pipe.)
-
2
Tie knots in the ends of the rope at both sides of the piping to hold the first rung in place. You may also use athletic tape to secure the knots more firmly.

3
Make marks on both sides of the rope, 18 inches from the first rung. This is where your next piece of PVC pipe will go.
-
4
At the 18-inch mark, run both sides of the rope through the PVC pipe. You will have one piece of rope going through one side of the pipe and the other piece of rope running in the opposite direction. Tie off the rope at the ends of the pipe to keep it in place. (You can also use the athletic tape.)

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until you have used 19 pieces of PVC (all of the same dimensions). This will give you a 15-foot ladder. Tie off the ends of the rope on the final rung to secure them firmly in place. Trim the leftover rope and discard.
