How to Make Mini Skateboard Ramps
Skateboarders are always looking for new terrain to shred and try new tricks. If you are a skater in a small town, you may not have access to a skate park, so you have to be more inventive if you want to create your own ramps to improve your skills and learn new tricks. Building your own ramp is inexpensive and will only take a few hours of your time.

1
Choose the plans you would like to use to build your mini skateboard ramp. The Internet is chock full of resources and sites that offer free building plans, and some will be listed in the Resources section of this article. If you are feeling especially creative you can design your own plans and use them as guidelines to build your ramp. Consider the size of the ramp. Keep in mind you will have to keep it small enough to be stored indoors during the winter and rainy weather. Most ramps average between 2-4 feet high and 8-9 feet wide.

2
Clear out your garage or basement to use as your work place and storage area. You want a spot where you can build your ramp and store it out of the elements. Make sure the garage or basement is dry so as not to cause your wood to rot.

3
Take a piece of plywood (about 3/4" thick) and draw a line up the right side of the board. The line should be a little over two feet in length.
-
4
Start at the end of the line you just made and make another line going toward the left side. Stop once you reach the center of the board. You've just made the lines for the deck of your ramp.
-
5
Make a third line at the bottom of the plywood about five feet long. This is the bottom of the mini ramp, where the board will make contact with the ramp and ride up to the top.
-
6
Take your saw and carefully cut along all of the lines you've drawn. The best type of saw to use is a Skil saw as it will help ensure your curves are smooth. Repeat the process again on another sheet of plywood. This will be the other side of the mini ramp.

7
Connect some 2x4 wood pieces in between the two sides of the ramp. They will need to be properly evened out in order to support the ramp securely. Use nails and screws to fasten these pieces in place.

8
Take a third sheet of thin plywood and fasten it to the ramp. This will be the piece that will cover the front of the ramp where the skateboard will go up. Use nails to fasten the piece in place. Sand all rough spots on the ramp surface. Take a piece of sandpaper and rub it along the surface until it is smooth.
