How to Use a Netgear Wireless Router

If you want to have wireless Internet access in your home, you need to purchase a router. Netgear offers an easy to use and affordable router that you can install yourself without having a background in computers. A step-by-step instructional CD-rom comes with the purchase of the Netgear router which will guide you through the process of setting up your wireless network. If you have lost of misplaced this disc, there is another way to step up and use your Netgear router.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer Netgear router Ethernet cord (other than the one provided)
  1. Step 1

    Plug the power cord into your Netgear router and the wall outlet. The power cord fits into the circular opening located at the far left of your router.

  2. Step 2

    Connect the Ethernet cord from your modem to the Ethernet port located directly not to the antenna on the far right of the router.

  3. Step 3

    Check to see if you have the instructional CD-rom which should have accompanied your purchase. If you lost or misplaced this disc move on to step 4.

  4. Step 4

    Open an Internet browser window and type: http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm.

  5. Step 5

    Sign in by using your login name and password if you have one, otherwise the default login name is "Admin" and the password is either "1234" or "password."

  6. Step 6

    Follow all of the on-screen instructions and click "Apply," even if you do not change anything.

  7. Step 7

    Access the Internet wirelessly by clicking the "Start Windows" button, then sliding over the "Connect to " button and clicking "Wireless Network Connection."

  8. Step 8

    Sign in with the new password that you created. If you choose not to create a password, clicking on "Wireless Network Connection" with connect you straight to the Internet.

Tips & Warnings
  • If this is not the first time you have set up this router, you need to restart the Netgear wireless router by pushing a pen or a pin into the tiny restart button located directly next to the antenna. Hold the button down for twenty seconds and then release it.
