Laptops are quickly becoming more popular than desktops for many people. The size and portability of a laptop makes this a good choice for people on the go.

However, using a laptop for an extended period of time can be uncomfortable for some people. The screen and keyboard of a laptop are not arranged in an ergonomic way that make using a laptop comfortable. Often people experience neck strain when they spend too much time using a laptop. Additionally, it is better for a laptop if it is in a position where the air vents will cool the computer efficiently and effectively.

For these reasons, many laptop users use their laptop on a laptop mount while using a separate keyboard and mouse. A laptop mount brings the laptop up to a better position for the comfort of the user and at the same time it helps keep the laptop cooling properly.

Here is an easy way to construct an inexpensive laptop mount for your computer.

    Building a Laptop Mount

  1. Step 1

Choose a very sturdy metal file sorter that has a wide base and at least five slots for files. This is a common office supply item that is readily available in any office supply store. They are not expensive, so be sure to choose the most sturdy and substantial one available. Situate the file sorter firmly on your work area.

  2. Step 2

Open your laptop fully so that it is completely open and flat. Place your laptop with the keyboard at the bottom into the first slot of the metal file sorter, closest to you.

  3. Step 3

Connect your keyboard and your mouse to your laptop. This creates an ergonomically appropriate laptop stand and work area that cost you very little time and money to create.

Tips & Warnings
  • Because the metal file sorter contains more file slots that are now behind your laptop, these slots can be used to store papers and files in a neat and organized fashion on your desk.
