How to Make a Ziggurat Pop-Up Book
A ziggurat pop-up book would be ideal for students studying ziggurats and Mesopotamian culture. A ziggurat pop-up book is also ideal for books detailing old stories and myths both from the Bible and from the Middle Eastern regions, from tales of Ur to tales of the Great Flood. A ziggurat pop-up book is an unusual project to undertake and will take a measure of patience to complete.

How to Make a Ziggurat Pop-Up Book
-
1
Create a ziggurat book cover. Take 9-by12-inch page to decorate. Fold the page in half. Use pictures of ziggurats or figures from within History Pockets to decorate the book. History Pockets features great learning materials and models that children can base their drawings on or cut out to use.
-
2
Illustrate the background on 8.5-by-11-inch sheet. Fold the page in half. Draw the background of the region (desert, jungle) where the ziggurat is found.

3
Create a ziggurat. Using construction paper, measure half-inch slips of paper and cut out. You can construct a ziggurat from paper tabs glued together in order to create a multi-level but flat pyramid. This method requires some experimentation with the tabs to create the different levels. You'll want to give the glue time to dry. Use heavier construction paper for this part in order to give it the strength to pop up.

4
Create a ziggurat from the book. Inside History Pockets (see Resources) you'll find many figures and pop-ups that are pre-made. Photocopy them and use the tabs to insert into your page. Fold and then open again to ensure that it pops up.
-
5
Give glue time to dry. Open and close the pop-up page carefully to ensure that it pops. Ziggurat-type pop ups are more fragile than simpler versions because the more that lifts off the page; the more likely it is to rip.
-
6
Add text. Add any text to the pages and secure the pages together lightly until ready to publish or affix permanently. To affix permanently, glue the front half of page one to the inside of the main cover, glue the front half of page two to the second half of page one, etc.
