Don't measure the trim in the window. Measure only from jamb to jamb.

Use the smaller of the two measurements.

Take your measurements from the inside of the house, not the outside.
Tips & Warnings
Any gaps caused by variations in measurements will be filled when you replace the window. When you order new windows, always specify the width first and the height second.
