Things You'll Need:
- Different sizes of plywood at least 1/2-inch thick Wooden ground stakes Nails Hammer Woodburner Pattern of your choice Pencil Transfer paper Polyurethane sealant
-
Step 1
Choose a design or saying for your sign. Cut the plywood to the desired size for your sign. Keep in mind, an 8 by 11-inch size is a great size for your sign.
Let the woodburning tool heat up. -
Step 2
Draw in your design with a pencil or transfer from an existing pattern with transfer paper.
-
Step 3
Following the lines you have made on the plywood, woodburn the design into the plywood.
Turn the wood so you will always be working right in front of you. -
Step 4
When the design is complete, lay sign face down and place the wooden stake in the back of the plywood in the center.
-
Step 5
Lay the completed sign on a flat surface and apply the sealant to the top and edges.
Allow to dry. Turn the sign over when dry and apply the sealant to the back. Allow the back to dry.
Repeat this process three times in order to ensure a thick coat of polyurethane to protect the wood from the elements and to prevent the sign from becoming warped.
Place in the desired location in your yard.
