Install AIM on Windows Vista

AOL Instant Messenger (or AIM, for short) is one of the world's most popular instant-messaging programs. Thousands of people use it for their instant messaging, and AIM has several community features--like advanced emoticons, file-sharing and game functionality--that keep users connecting with friends online.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the official AIM download website (see Resources) and click on the "Download" link at the top of the page. A pop-up window will open that will display the status of your download.

  2. Step 2

Install AIM. Once the program has finished downloading, a new icon will appear on your Windows Vista desktop. Double-click on this icon to start the installation process. You will have to click through a few prompts for the install to be successful. If you do not already have an AIM username, you will be able to sign up for it during this phase of the process.

  3. Step 3

Restart your computer. This will ensure that the program was installed correctly, and is the final step of the installation process.

  4. Step 4

Launch the program. You should now have a shortcut to AIM on your desktop, and you will also have a link to the program in your Windows Vista system tray and the "Programs" section of the "Start" menu.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you cannot access your computer for some reason, you can also access your AIM account online by using the AIM Express service. (See Resources.)
