Select the Restore option. Once you press the button you will be prompted to choose one of four different types of restores: The first type of restore re-installs the iPod software version currently on your device. The second will use the older firmware on your device, even if a newer software is available. The third and fourth option both use the latest iPod software available, although the fourth updates your old software rather than replacing it.

Wait while your iPod resets. Your iPod will display a "Do not disconnect" message during this process. It is very important not to unplug or attempt to operate your iPod while everything is being erased from it. When the restore is complete, an Apple logo will pop up, and will then be followed by the familiar iPod menu. All of your content will be gone and you will be able to continue with your troubleshooting or organizing.
