1
Purchase new box springs. Box springs, the portion of your bed that goes underneath the mattress, work in conjunction with the mattress to establish the firmness of your bedding. If your box springs are old and worn out, they'll contribute to your mattress being too soft. Measure your mattress size (length and width) and purchase a new set of box springs to match.

2
Support the mattress with a board. Measure the mattress' width and length, and cut a piece of 3/4-inch plywood to the same dimensions with a saw.

3
Sand the edges so they are smooth and won't produce splinters.
-
4
Lift up the mattress from the box springs, and slide the board in, so that it sits between the box springs and mattress.
-
5
Center the mattress back on top of the box springs and board.
