How to Fix a Broken Bike Chain

A broken chain can sideline a bicyclist, but it is an easy fix that can be done right on the road if you have the right items.

Things You'll Need

• Chain tool Replacement link Flat head screwdriver

Instructions

1. 

   Locate the broken link in the chain.

2. 

   Using the chain tool, remove the remaining pin in the link.

3. 

   Get new link ready for installation.

4. 

   Insert the new link with the posts into the spot where the old link was and top with the link cap.

5. 

   Slide the link clip over the top of the cap until it clicks and your chain will be as good as new.

Tips & Warnings

• In some cases this can actually improve a stock bicycle, most of which do not come with a removable chain.
