Instructions

  1. How to Format a Memory Card on a BlackBerry

    • 1

Locate your phone's expansion port. This will vary depending on the phone. Most older BlackBerry models have the expansion port on the bottom of the phone; more modern models like the popular Storm, Bold and Pearl have it on the side.

    • 2

Place the MicroSD card, logo side up, in the expansion port. The expansion port is spring loaded, so press the memory card gently into the slot to lock it into place.

    • 3

Wait for a status bar to pop up. When you see this bar, it means that the formatting process is taking place. Any content that was already on the memory card will be erased during this process. After the status bar fills, your memory card will be formatted and will be ready for use in both your computer and your phone.

    • 4

Eject the formatted card. You can do this by pressing gently on the card in the expansion slot. You do not need to press any buttons to eject the formatted memory card.

Tips & Warnings

  • After your memory card has been formatted, it is important not to modify its inherant file structure, as this will corrupt any links your phone has to any installed apps.
