Scroll down the list of job openings for highway patrol officers and click the View button for the department or position in which you would like to apply. Contact the highway patrol or public safety department representative listed in the contact area either through email or by calling the number listed to set up an appointment. Once you contact the departments recruiting representatives, take the opportunity to ask any further questions about the position that might not have been answered in the job description. The representative may request that you fill out an application. If so, fill it out immediately and send it in so that it is fresh on their mind. Before you are eligible to become a highway patrol officer, you will have to complete the Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements. Get a copy of the test book from your local bookstore and study while you are waiting for your interview date.
-
4
Prepare for the interview by making sure you present yourself professionally. Men should wear dress shoes that are polished along with dress clothes and tie. Law-enforcement representatives take pride in their appearance, and presenting yourself professionally will help get you the position you desire.

5
Train for physical fitness while you are waiting to hear about your application. Law enforcement is a very demanding career, and many do not complete the academy training because they are not able to endure it. Use your time to prepare.
