How to Cook in a Stock Pot

Many recipes for soups, stews and stocks can be made in a stock pot. Stock pots are appropriate for these recipes since meats and vegetables can be sautéed in the bottom of the pot before liquids are added to simmer and cook. Instructions

      Turn on the stove top burner.

      Place the stock pot on the stove top.

    • 3

      Place a small amount of butter, olive oil or vegetable oil in the bottom of the pan if the recipe calls for cooking a meat or vegetables in the stock pot.

      Place any liquids that the recipe calls for in the stock pot.

      Place a tightly fitting lid on the stock pot and simmer as directed by the recipe.

  • Never leave an empty stock pot on a heat source.
