How to Use the Garmin Nuvi 200W GPS System

After many difficulties getting directions and reading maps, you finally purchased a GPS. The Garmin Nuvi 200W was an obvious choice given its easy touch-screen operation and moderate price. All you have to do now is get it working so that you can begin navigating your way around town.

Instructions

  1. Get a Satellite Signal

    • 1

Go outside to an open area with no overhead coverage. Trees and other overhanging objects can block the signal.

    • 2

Turn on the Nuvi by sliding the power button to the left.

    • 3

Watch the satellite strength indicator on the upper left of the screen. Once at least one green bar is full, the Nuvi has acquired a signal.

Navigate to your Destination by Entering Address

    • 4

Touch the "Where To?" icon. Then select "Address."

    • 5

Adjust the state/county/province if needed, then touch "Spell City." Enter the city or zip code and hit "Done."

    • 6

Type in the number of the address and hit "Done."

    • 7

Enter name of the street and hit "Done." Select from a list of streets if one pops up.

    • 8

Select the address, if prompted, and hit "Go!" to get turn-by-turn directions.

    Get Directions with the Map

    • 9

Use the map to find directions. Go to "Where To?" and "Browse Map."

    • 10

Use the "+" and "-" buttons to zoom in or out.

    • 11

Touch the desired destination on the map and hit "Save."

    • 12

Touch "Go!" to get directions to the location.
