If adhesive finds its way onto a carpet it can leave an irritating sticky stain. Sometimes its left behind from the tape that was meant to keep it in place or from the overzealous child that decided stickers on the carpet might make it prettier.       Place a paper towel directly on the adhesive. Place a clean cloth over the paper towel and iron over it until all the adhesive is lifted onto the paper towel.

      Soak a cloth in vinegar and place it on the adhesive overnight. Remove the adhesive by scrubbing with a clean dry cloth and picking up the loose residual pieces. Rinse the area with a damp cloth.

      Apply mineral oil to a clean cloth and wipe the adhesive from the carpet.

      Press a strip of duct tape to the adhesive firmly, then pull it away. Do this until all of the adhesive is gone.

      Spray the adhesive with spray lubricant (WD-40) and allow it to sit for five minutes before wiping it and the adhesive away.

Tips & Warnings

  • Test each method on an inconspicuous section of carpet to make sure that it doesn't damage the carpet.
