How to Sew a Back Rest Pillow
Back rest pillows can be a welcome relief to an aching back, and they can also help prevent future back pain. Making a back rest pillow is fairly simple and takes only a modest amount of sewing experience. A back rest pillow can accompany you on all kinds of trips. For this particular back rest pillow, you'll only need a few items and a few hours.

- Foam, Fiberfil or beans for stuffing 1/2 yard fabric Sewing machine Pins Scissors Tape measure or ruler Needle Thread

Decide on the size of your back rest pillow. A good size for a back rest pillow is about 16 to 18 inches long by 6 to 8 inches wide.

Measure out the pillow, adding 5/8 of an inch all around the measurement. This extra fabric will serve as a seam allowance.

Cut out the two pieces of the fabric.

Roll out the foam, if using foam as filling for the pillow, and mark out a rectangle about two inches smaller on all sides.

Cut out the foam rectangle.

Pin three sides of the two pieces of fabric together with right sides together.

Sew the three pinned sides together, making sure to leave one side open.

Trim all the corners closely to the seam, making sure to not snip through the seam.

Flip the pillow inside out, and insert the stuffing.

Push the thread through your needle's opening, and tie off the thread at one end.

Sew the open end together, tucking the seam allowance inward and using a slip stitch.
