Things You'll Need:
- Pearl snare-drum mount Drum key Resonance head
-
Step 1
Remove both the batter and resonant heads from the drum. Give the drum a thorough look over, inspecting it for any loose parts or pieces that might cause the drum to make a rattling noise. Put the drum with the Pearl batter head down on a slightly padded surface.
-
Step 2
Put the resonant drum head back on the drum. Turn the nuts gently and slowly until they reach the drum's metal rim.
-
Step 3
Take the drum key and tighten the rods. You must tighten the rods in a pattern similar to that of a star. Each rod must be tightened at least two full turns, and the turns should each be half turns of the key.
-
Step 4
Flip the drum back over and hit it a few times. Listen closely to see if the sound you get from the drum is producing any type of distortion or rattle. Turn the nuts slightly each time until you can no longer hear distortion and rattle.
-
Step 5
Flip the drum over again so the tuning side is facing up. Tap the drum key against the drum an inch away from the lug nut. Repeat this process with the other nuts. Then tighten the drum head to the highest pitch.
-
Step 6
Place the Pearl snare drum on the drum mount and give each lug nut about one-quarter of a turn. Do a few test strikes with each turn to make sure the sound is not distorted.
-
Step 7
Put the snare drum back on the padded surface and repeat this process with the batter head of the drum. Once this is completed your Pearl snare drum should be perfectly tuned.
