How to Fix a Rattling Washer

Your washing machine is rattling every time it goes into the spin cycle, and it's driving you crazy. Not just a distraction but a potential cause of floor damage, a rattling washer is caused by the machine not being level on the floor. It isn't a complicated repair, though you will need an extra pair of hands to fix the problem. Roll up your sleeves and grab some tools, and before you know it, that washer will be purring like a kitten.

Instructions

1. Lay the level flat on the top left-hand side of the washing machine and observe the bubble indicator. Lift the level slowly until the bubble is centered; this will show you how much to raise or lower the left-hand washer feet. Check the right side in the same manner.

2. Tip the washer 45 degrees to the left and use the pliers to turn the feet on the bottom of the machine. Turn the foot clockwise to lower it or counterclockwise to raise it, according to the amount shown by the level.

3. Lower the washing machine and check its level again. If it is still off, adjust the feet accordingly. It may take three to five adjustments to level correctly, so be patient. When you've finished leveling, the washer will no longer rattle every time you turn it on.
