How to Twirl a Drumstick
Twirling a drumstick is not too difficult to learn, although it will take practice to perform the stunt as seamlessly as it appears when a musician is doing it on stage. All you need is a drumstick, your hands and a little time.

1
Hold the drumstick in what is known as the "standard" or "normal" position. The standard position means that the drumstick should come to a rest right above your index finger.
-
2
Begin the twirling with a simple push of the drumstick with your thumb. You will need to move your other fingers out of the way of the stick as your index finger provides support.

3
As you push the stick, bring your index and middle fingers together to hold it once it tips off your index finger. The stick should be facing toward the floor at the end of this motion.
-
4
Use your index finger to bring the stick over between your third and middle fingers. The stick should be facing upward at this juncture.
-
5
To bring the twirl to a close, bring the stick between your third and little finger; it should be facing toward your body. Bring the stick around to come to a stop between your thumb and index finger. As you practice for longer and longer (and it does take a bit of time to learn), you should be able to twirl without pauses.
