How to Make Jabot Curtains
Jabot curtains are pleated side draperies that flow down the edges of a window. Jabot curtains are typically paired with an accompanying swag in the middle of the window. The swag is the centered part and the jabots frame each side. Someone with average sewing skills can make jabot curtains with only a little time and effort. The resulting curtains will add beauty and charm to any window décor.

Making Jabot Curtains
-
1
Plan the desired design. Decide on the length and width of the jabot curtains.
-
2
Measure the window(s). Measure the length of the jabot curtains to the point where you want the jabot curtains to reach. abot curtains often extend to the midpoint of the window or down to the window sill.

-
3
Measure the fabric and cut it to the measurement length from Step 2. Do not cut the angle until the fabric is pleated.
-
4
Make vertical pleats carefully in the fabric. The number, size, and spacing is completely up to individual desire and taste. When the fabric is pleated satisfactorily, press well to set the pleats. Measure the necessary width to fit the window and cut the fabric accordingly. Cut the angle desired for the bottom of the jabot curtains. Again, this can be whatever angle appeals to you.
-
5
Hem the top, bottom and sides. If desired, tack the pleats into place.
-
6
Make the window box. To do this, use three pieces of simple wood. The wood finish is not important because this wood will be completely covered by fabric. The window box will frame the top of the window. This will be the structure from which the jabot curtains hang. Staple the jabot curtains to the window box. Take care to create the pleats once again, while you staple. Follow the previously made pressing lines for the pleats. Hide every staple under the pleats.
-
7
Attach the completed window box to the top of the window with brackets and hardware.
