Occasionally, you will be asked if you want to enable your ActiveX Controls because your computer has encountered a problem trying to run certain types of applications. It's a bug in Windows that affects users running older versions of Internet Explorer (versions 4, 5 or 6). Rest assured that the fix is a relatively simple one; you won't have to install or download any complex software.

      Select "Tools"

      In an open browser window, click "Tools" on the menu bar and then select "Internet Options."

      Customize the level of security

      From the "Internet Options" window, choose the "Security" tab. Then select the custom level button.

      Scroll to the list of ActiveX Controls and plugins.

      Run ActiveX controls

      To enable ActiveX Controls in Windows, mark the circle for "Enable" next to "Binary and Script Behaviors," "Run ActiveX Controls and Plugins" and "Script ActiveX Controls Marked Safe for Scripting."

      Mark the circle for "Prompt" next to "Download signed ActiveX Controls."

      Watch for a warning message to pop up asking if you are sure you want to modify your security settings. Click "Yes."
