Spending $2 or $3 on a 30-second audio clip that can be used as a ringtone for your iPhone may not be something you want to do. Unfortunately, many websites that offer free ringtones are not compatible with iPhones.

From Quick Guide: Custom iPhone Ringtone Guide
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log on to Myxer's home page.

  2. Step 2

Enter the name of the artist or song you want to search for in the text box underneath the "Start your search!" heading, on the right side of the home page. Click the drop box underneath the text box, select "Ringtones," and click the "Find This" tab. You can also click the "Explore" tab on the right side of the home page and search for ringtones by category.

  3. Step 3

Click on the ringtone you would like to send to your iPhone, then click the "Customize It First" tab.

  4. Step 4

Change the length of the ringtone by clicking on the shaded box located in the "Select a Section" audio animation. Preview the ringtone by clicking the "Play" button, and change the name and volume of the ringtone in the "Ringtone Options" section.

  5. Step 5

Click the "Download for iPhone" link at the bottom of the page, then click "Download Ringtone." Choose where you want to save the ringtone and click "OK." The ringtone will be downloaded to your computer.

  6. Step 6

Open iTunes and plug your iPhone into your computer.

  7. Step 7

Click "File," then "Add File to Library." Select the ringtone you downloaded and click "OK." The ringtone will be added to your iTunes Library. You can drag the ringtone to the iPhone icon located on the left side of the iTunes program, transferring it to your iPhone.
