How to Knit a Tube Scarf on a Oval Loom
Loom knitting is a way of knitting without needles. Using a hook, yarn or thread is looped around the pegs of a loom, resulting in a fabric tube. This tube can be made as long as you like, and is the natural choice for producing hats, socks and scarves. The following directions will guide you in the creation of a simple tube scarf. When choosing a loom, remember, the bigger the loom, the wider the scarf will be.
Things You'll Need
- 24 peg oval loom Hook tool Crochet hook, size J or K 1 ½ skeins of yarn Tapestry needle Scissors

1
Using the crochet hook, cast on. This is done by making a slip knot six inches from the beginning of the yarn. Place the resulting loop on peg number one. Insert the crochet hook through the loop. Catching the strand of yarn coming from the skein on the crochet hook, pull the new yarn through the loop on peg one, forming a new loop. Place the new loop on peg number two. Repeat this process until there is a loop on every peg. Repeat one more time placing a second loop on peg number one. Remove the crochet hook.

Knit, using the e-wrap stitch for 150 rows. To e-wrap, begin with peg number 1. Moving clockwise around the loom, loosely wrap the yarn around each peg, over and under, forming a cursive letter e. The yarn is wrapped in a counterclockwise direction, but you progress clockwise around the loom. When you have wrapped all the pegs, beginning with peg number one, place the hook tool beneath the first row of yarn. Lift it up and over the top yarn on that peg. Repeat.

3
Knit a final row making the loops loose enough to reach the peg that is beside it.

4
Beginning with pegs number one and two, bind off using the flat method. This is done by moving the loop on peg number two over to peg number one. Knit off the loop on peg number one. Then move the resulting loop onto the now empty peg number two. Repeat this step moving around the loom. When there is one loop remaining on the loom, cut the yarn leaving an 8 inch tail.
-
5
Thread the 8 inch yarn tail into a tapestry needle. Using the needle, draw the yarn tail through the remaining loop and then remove the loop from the loom. Draw the needle underneath the first loop to finish the top edge. Then draw the needle back through the top of the last loop to finish the stitch and tie a small knot. Hide the yarn tail on the inside of the scarf.
-
6
Tuck the beginning yarn tail inside the scarf at the other end.
-
7
Close the ends of the scarf by adding a layer of fringe through both thickness of knitting to each end. Alternatively, close the ends by 'sewing' them shut with left over yarn run through the tapestry needle. Or you can leave the ends as is.

Tips & Warnings
Buy all the yarn you need at one time. Even colors that are supposed to be the same can be dissimilar shades if they come from different dye lots.
