The stocking cap weave is a method of hair weaving that involves attaching hair extensions to a stocking cap with glue. By simply using a different hair texture, color and length to make the weave, you can have a different appearance as often as desired. The woven stocking cap can be sewn to the hair for a more permanent look, or it can be worn as a wig. As with any new hobby, the steps to make this type of weave may appear complicated at first. However, with enough practice, anyone can become skilled in the process of making a stocking cap weave.

Things You'll Need:

  • Blow dryer Hair extensions Weaving glue Stocking cap Scissors
  1. Step 1

Purchase your weave. Hair weaves are available as synthetic or human hair. They are either straight or curly and come in a variety of colors, textures and lengths.

  2. Step 2

Starting from your hairline, braid your hair in circular lines around your head, like a beehive, up to the top.

  3. Step 3

Put on a shower cap. You will be using glue to attach the weave to the stocking cap, so you need to cover your hair with something that will absorb the glue or just keep it off your hair. You can also cover your hair with plastic wrap or paper towels.

  4. Step 4

Put a stocking cap on. You will attach the hair extensions to the cap. As an alternative, you can cut a pair of old stockings for this purpose.

  5. Step 5

Measure and cut the hair tracks. The hair tracks are usually too long to attach at once. Place the end of one track at the front of your head and take it around your head until you get back to the beginning. Use a pair of scissors to cut the excess part off.

  6. Step 6

Attach the hair tracks. Start an inch from the nape of the neck, working toward the crown. Dab small spots of glue along the back of the hair track and immediately place it around the stocking cap until the two ends meet.

  7. Step 7

Apply heat. Use a hair dryer to dry the glue quickly.

  8. Step 8

Repeat Steps 5 to 7 until you get to the crown. Each succeeding row should be no more than one inch higher than the one before. Keep attaching tracks in a circular lines until you have a very small hole at the top.

  9. Step 9

Finish the stocking cap weave. Take the cap off and sew the sides of the hole together. Look for areas with large gaps and add more tracks as needed. Comb and style the hair as you wish.

  10. Step 10

Learn more about weaves. Read "The World of Wigs, Weaves and Extensions" by Toni Love learn a variety of weave styles.

Tips & Warnings
  • Curly hair makes it easier to hide the center of the weave. You can also create your stocking cap weave using a wig stand. Although creating it on your head helps you place the tracks in the best positions, the wig stand gives you more control.
