Nothing says style like a four poster bed. The presence of a four poster bed in a bedroom instantly transforms it into a beautiful and intimate bedroom setting. Four poster beds are very traditional, old fashioned furniture, and they are becoming more and more popular.
Four poster beds vary in size and in the materials they are constructed from. The fabrics used to dress them also can vary from bold and heavy to light and airy. A simple length of fabric is all that is necessary to dress a four poster bed in style.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Decorator fabric (see instructions for calculating yardage) Tape measure Scissors Sewing machine
  1. Step 1

Measure the four poster bed area to calculate fabric yardage. Measure from the floor to the ceiling and add an additional 12 inches to allow for hemming. Take this figure and multiply by 6. This figure is the amount of fabric needed to hang fabric around a four poster bed.

  2. Step 2

Decide what kind of fabric is desired to hang around the bed. Popular fabrics are tapestries and velvets. It's not necessary to be this formal, however. To create country charm, cotton gingham may be an option. Another option is to use coordinating sheets from an existing bedding ensemble. If this is done, it will be necessary to sew the sheets into long panels.

  3. Step 3

Cut the fabric in half width-wise. Hem the raw edges of the fabric.

  4. Step 4

Drape the fabric over the bed frame starting at one of the front corners of the bed. The fabric should reach the floor where you start. At the first corner of the bed, loop the fabric around the corner and proceed straight across to the opposite head corner of the bed. Loop the fabric around this corner and allow the fabric to simply fall to the floor. Repeat these identical steps at the foot of the bed.

  5. Step 5

Adjust the fabric to make it even and symmetrical.
