How to Use Adobe Photoshop 6.0

Adobe Photoshop is a powerful photo editing program. With this program you can do far more than resize and crop images. The following steps will show you how to get started with Photoshop and how to undo an edit that you've made in error.

Instructions

    • 1

Open or create a new image file to edit. To do this, click on "File" in the upper left-hand corner of the Menu bar. From the Menu that opens, click "Open" to find an image file on your computer, or "New" to create a new image file. If you create a new image file, you will be given a menu to set the image size, resolution, color mode and background of the new file.

    • 2

Adjust the color and contrast of the image you are editing. To do this, click on "Image" and "Adjustments." From this drop-down menu, you can make automatic, or "auto," adjustments or manual adjustments. Clicking on "Auto Color," "Auto Contrast" and "Auto Levels" can instantly improve your image.

    • 3

Reverse an edit you just made to your image. If you've edited your image, and don't like the results, you can reverse the change by clicking on "Edit" and then "Undo." To change previous edits, go to the menu palette in the lower right-hand corner of the screen and click on the "History" tab. This will show the order of recent edits in a list. Click on an edit in the list. That edit, and all edits after it, will be undone.

    • 4

Explore the toolbox to the left side of the picture you are editing. This is a narrow vertical box filled with icons. Other tools are hidden behind each icon. To see what tools are available, right-click on an icon and a small menu will pop up, showing the different tools in that group. The most recent tool used will be on top.

    • 5

Click on a tool in the toolbox to the left side of the picture you are editing, and your cursor will change to that tool. The toolbox menu will display the name of the tools with the icons when you right-click on a tool.

    • 6

Adjust your color palette in the toolbox by clicking on the color squares. The top color will be the available color. Change the color squares to match a color in your picture by choosing the eyedropper tool and clicking your cursor on the desired color in your picture. Paint the color onto your picture by dumping a bucket of color with the paint bucket tool, or use the paint brush tool.

    • 7

Crop your image by clicking on the crop tool and then running the cursor over the picture, outlining where you want the new border to be.

    • 8

Save your image by clicking on "File" and "Save" or "Save As." You have the option to name your file and to choose a file type.
