In this economy, the job market fluctuates frequently. There may be times when you are able to find numerous jobs online, in the newspapers or through referrals. There may be dry spells where you are only able to find one or two per week, if you are lucky! One of the easiest and quickest ways to get noticed by a prospective employer is by faxing your cover letter and resume.

Create a fax cover sheet. Be sure to include the following components when creating the cover sheet:
-Your name and phone number
-To
-Company fax number
-Company phone number
-Number of Pages
-Date
-RE or Subject
-CcNote whether the fax is urgent, for review or needs a comment or reply.

Review your cover letter and resume before you print. Print on plain white paper. Check your final copy for possible smudge marks and faded ink spots. Review the copy one last time.

Begin your fax by organizing the papers in the following order: fax cover sheet, cover letter and resume. Neatly place the pages either face down or face up, depending on the small icon that is usually marked by the paper insert area.

Check the fax machine to make sure it is on the proper settings and the phone is on the receiver. Once the fax button is lit, type the phone number and area code on the keypad. The phone number can be seen on the digital display above the keypad.

Press the start button. The paperwork will begin to slowly transmit through the fax machine. Feel free to wait until the fax is completed. If successful, the machine will beep. Collect the confirmation receipt for verification purposes.

Tips & Warnings
Address the cover letter to the correct person and department. If you are unsure of the proper spelling of someone's name, call the company and verify the spelling with the receptionist. You may also do an Internet search. Print with black ink only. If you are having problems faxing, try these troubleshooting methods: Make sure the telephone cord is connected to the fax machine. -Make sure the electrical cord is connected to the wall. -Double check the fax number. -Try to redial the fax number if it did not transmit. -Call the recipient of the fax and ask them to turn on their fax machine.
