How to Create a Certificate of Recognition

Many computer programs, such as Microsoft Publisher, have templates for certificates of recognition. Then it's a simple matter of filling in the information, printing the certificate and awarding it. You can also find free templates online, but you might want to create a customized certificate.

• Computer Printer Fancy paper

1. Open your word processor and make sure your page layout is set to landscape.

2. 

   Choose a border for your certificate of recognition.

3. 

   Center your company logo, clip art or photo as the first line of your certificate.

4. 

   Type "Certificate of Recognition" below the logo. Center it, then choose a font that is appropriate for the occasion. Use a large typeface to emphasize the words.

5. 

   Use a smaller typeface and the same font, and center the words "Presented to."

6. 

   Place the recipient's name below "Presented to." Use a large typeface and a different font to set it apart, and center the name.

7. 

   Type "Awarded this certificate by," followed by your or your company's name. Center it.

8. 

   Type "In appreciation for," followed by the reason for the certificate on the next line in the same font you used for "Presented to." It's OK if this runs several lines. Keep it centered.

9. 

   Make a short line below that on the left for the date. To the right, make another line for the presenter to sign. Type in the date below the date line and the presenter's name below the signature line.

Tips & Warnings

• Try different fonts and typefaces. Make some phrases bold. There are no hard and fast rules for a certificate of recognition. Include the right information, and make it fit the occasion.
