How to Program a Craftsman Garage Door Opener

Garage door opener technology came about in World War II and was used to detonate remote bombs. When used as garage openers, there was a frequent problem when using the remote control device to open one's garage. It would open the garage door as commanded, but it would also open the neighbor's garage door as well. The next generation of garage doors cured that problem, but was not security minded in the design. Working on a frequency range and rolling technology seemed to fix both of the old issues. A new random seed code was delivered to the remote control device after it was used. This way, after the garage door was opened, a new code would be hard set in the receiver for the next time. It allowed a secure one-way availability to the garage door sensor.

Instructions

1. Locate the "Learn" button on the garage door opening mechanism. The "Learn" button is a ¼-inch button located near the screw terminals.

2. Push the "Learn" button. Do not hold the "Learn" button for long or it will erase all internal data.

3. Push the button on the transmitter. The LED will flash. The garage door is now programmed.

4. Test the garage door to verify that it works.

5. Repeat steps 1 through 4. Do this only if you have multiple transmitter devices that need to be programmed.
