How to Sell Used Textbooks on Amazon
Once upon a time, used textbooks were left on a bookshelf in the basement never to be read again. Either that or students could sell a book back to their college bookstore for $3 after paying $185 for it. Thankfully, now there are websites such as Amazon.com that allow you to sell your used textbooks and recover a larger portion of what you paid. While you might not make as much as you spent, selling books online might give you a better return than trying to sell them at a yard sale.

1
List your books. Search through Amazon's list of textbooks and find the "Sell Yours Here" button. Describe the book's condition. If there is a scratch on the cover or highlighted markings in the book, you must document them.
-
2
Set a price for your textbooks. Determine a fair price by looking at similar books that are listed. If there are many of the same title, you should list yours at the same price or less for better chances of selling it. If your book is the only one listed, you might be able to charge more. Remember the fees you must pay Amazon based on the selling price. Take this into consideration when setting a price for your book.

View orders. The "Manage Orders" feature lets you view all of your orders from the most recent to the oldest. You can access information needed to fulfill orders, including the buyer's contact information, shipping services and payment status. The "Order Details" feature lets you view information including purchases by date, expected shipping dates and buyers' shipping addresses.

Ship your items. Go to your "Seller Account" and under the "Manage Your Orders" tab, click on "View Your Recent Marketplace Orders." Make sure the status is complete, and click on the order number, which accesses the "Order Detail" page. Verify the type of shipment and print out a packing slip and address label. Pack your textbooks appropriately, buy the correct postage and ship it off.
-
5
Contact the buyer and tell him the item has shipped. This is common courtesy so the buyer knows when to expect it.
-
6
Receive your money. Register through the "Marketplace Payments by Amazon Service." Provide your checking-account information. For first-time sellers, there is a 14-day holding period; after this period, you will receive payments every 14 days.

Tips & Warnings
Textbooks sold on Amazon should be in "Good" or "Acceptable" condition. If you supply textbooks that are in high demand and comply with teachers' required editions, selling textbooks can supplement any income.
