Collage frames allow you to exhibit many of your favorite pictures in a smaller space. Designing your photo mat is simple to do and takes only a few minutes. This guide explains how to create a custom collage photo mat using any photo editing software.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer Photo editing software Card stock in the size needed to fill the frame Printer Craft knife Ruler
  1. Step 1

    Open a blank document, size 8 inches by 10 inches, in your photo editing software. Set the page orientation to landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical), depending on what you need.

    Choose the background color for your collage photo mat. Use the paint bucket tool to fill the background with your color choice.

    Using the marquee tool, cut out spaces for your photos. Carefully measure the spaces, making sure the sizes match the photos you plan to insert.

  4. Step 4
    Add borders or frames
     
    Add borders or frames

    Add borders or frames to the photo spaces using the shape tool in your photo editing software. You can also embellish the collage photo mat using the different shapes and designs available in the shape tool menu.

  5. Step 5

    Print your custom collage photo mat onto card stock using the highest quality setting on your printer. Make sure the printer is set to the correct page orientation you chose in Step 1.

  6. Step 6

    Using the craft knife and ruler, carefully cut out the white spaces in your photo mat.

  7. Step 7

    Place your collage photo mat into the frame face down. Add your favorite pictures using photo adhesive and replace the backing of the frame.
