Write A Book Review

The Hunger Games is a novel I wrote a book review on. This book can be found in Hardback and Audio versions. You can download this novel onto your PDA as an audio book. There are places where you can also purchase a PDF downloadable version for certain eBook Readers.

Things You'll Need:

  • A Novel
  • A Notebook
  • A Pen
  1. Step 1

    CHOOSE YOUR BOOK

You need to choose a book to read. It does not matter what class the book is in. Just find one that captivates you.

  2. Step 2

    READ THE CHOSEN BOOK

While you read your chosen book, look at it with a critical eye. Your not judging, you are evaluating. Does the author cause you to think and draws you into the story? Is it written well or did you find it hard to follow the plot? What character did you identify with? What storyline did you grasp quickly and fully?

Reading with a critical eye will cause you to remember the story more clearly.

  3. Step 3

    WRITE A SYNOPSIS

When you are finished you need to write a synopsis. A short glimpse of what the novel was about. No more than 500 words. Make it concise and clear without giving away the entire plot. Leave questions for those reading your synopsis to discover.

A synopsis intent is to cause interest in the story enough to want to read it. This is what you find on the back jacket that draws you in.

For writing a good book review, a synopsis is vital. It pinpoints for you the important storyline that captivated you.

  4. Step 4

    WRITE YOUR REVIEW

Once you have written down your own synopsis you are ready to write your review. Do not go to this step until you have written your synopsis.

A review needs to be honest and from your point of view. Tell your audience what you liked and did not like about the novel. Tell your audience how you felt and why you would recommend it or not recommend it.

  5. Step 5

    PRODUCT DETAILS

Always make sure you put the product details for the book. You will need information like: book name, author, ISBN #, # of Pages, Age Level, Subject.

Add a link to where they can purchase the book can be important. You want to be sure your audience will be able to find the book you just wrote a review about.

on 2/26/2009 Nice -- writing a good book review is an art -- too often book reviews reveal the story rather than review it.
