Litter Train Your Kitten

Training your new kitten to "go" in the litterbox is a very easy task.

Instructions

    • 1

So you have a new addition to your family! Congratulations! Teaching your new kitten to use the litter box is actually easier than many people realize. You should start teaching your new kitten about the litter-box right away

    • 2

Keep an eye on your kitten, and when ever you see him or her starting to sniff, in search of a place to "go", gently pick your kitten up and place him in the litter box. This needs to be done as soon as you notice that your kitten is starting to sniff around for a place to go.

    • 3

While your kitten is in the litter box, push around a little of the litter using one of your kitten's paws. This will help let your kitten know that this is where they need to do their "business"

Once your kitten starts using the litter box, you should still keep an eye on them. If your kitten does not make it to the litter box in time, just use a paper towel to clean it up, and take your kitten and the paper towel to the litter box. The soiled paper towel needs to be brought to the litter box along with your kitten so he or she associates the scent with the litter box.

Your kitten might have the occasional accident, so be ready to follow the same procedure each time. Kittens learn very quickly and they will soon learn where the litterbox is to use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase a small kitten sized litter box at your local pet store. Once they grow into "cat-size" you can upgrade to a full size litter box.

  • Never yell at your kitten for having an accident, or they might not learn to use the litter box properly.

Good ideas. Luckily, most of them seem to get it right away.
