Step 1
You are probably already familiar with the type of style you like for a room, the classic French look, the clean Swedish look, or the hip modern look. You know what colors and patterns attract you and appeal to your senses. Your dorm room is going to be the place where you live; it is your new home. You need to spice it up with the type of flavor that you wanting to be living in 24/7. The room is going to have to reflect the mood you want to have around you as you hang out with new friends, finish up with your homework, or stumble home to late one night.
-
Step 2
One of the most important tasks of creating your dorm room is making the space livable. It should be organized and clean, so that you can maintain organization throughout the semesters. Keeping your room clutter clean will save you lots of added stress in the future.
-
Step 3
Once you have decided on your theme you should begin preparation. Since you cannot paint the walls in a dorm room, colorful pillows and throws will add a whole new dimension of life to the room (you can even take old clothes that are colorful and turn them into pillows or something else fun).
-
Step 4
Trying to bring in light and color into the small space is very important; you can do this by adding a mirror opposite of the window. Since a dorm room is hardly bigger than a closet making it appear bigger than it really is, is important.
-
Step 5
The key to decorating a dorm room is creativity. Many things can be done to add a little sparkle. For example, a little rick rack can go a long way; hot gluing colorful rick rack around the bottom of a dull white lamp shade and you have a whole new lamp. Painting your own canvases of things you enjoy or quotes you find inspiring can add a little more vavoom to your room.

on 5/6/2009 Since schools only provide you with a chair, I recommend you bring some type of comfy furniture that does not take up much space. Like this three person couch that takes up virtually no space and is super comfortable http://www.SlouchBack.com
