Things You'll Need:
- Need Decent Used Car
- Computer Access
-
Step 1
Know what type of car you are looking for before you begin. It could be the model, price point or even options. Having this info will save you a world of time.
-
Step 2
Surf over to Craigslist.org and on the right tabs, find the city that is closest to you to browse for your new car. People usually only sell local to local so don't expect to find anything more than fifty miles away.
-
Step 3
About middle of the page, under the 'for sale' section you will see the car tab. Click on the one that says by owner. Here is where you start your search for your next vehicle.
-
Step 4
Using your specs, walk your eye through the vehicles currently available and see if there are any cars you might find interesting. If there is, then click on the existing link and read more about the car and what it is like.
-
Step 5
To get good deals on Craigslist cars you need to refrain from emailing the seller. In fact, I suggest never contacting them any other way than by phone as email is impersonal and you can't imply how serious you are. So pick up the phone and dial any seller that might be of interest to you.
-
Step 6
When you talk to them ask for more information about the car, why they are getting rid of it and any other information you want. If this feels like a good vehicle, before you get off the phone set up a time to see the vehicle (that day.)
-
Step 7
Now most folks get oodles of emails but few calls about cars. And people are fair so if they set up an appointment with you, then the next appointment they agree to will be after you made a decision to buy (or not buy) the car.
-
Step 8
Go on out and check out the car. If it looks like what you want, be ready to talk turkey and see what type of deal you can get. Most folks price cars up to a $1000 higher on Craigslist than what they expect so you have lots of room to see what good deal you can get.
