A Hot Dog and a Drink is essential for Lunch

Once you have a customer at your hot dog cart ready to purchase a hot dog, you need to add on products to make more money. Frankly it is just good business. When is the last time you walked into a restaurant and didn't get asked if you wanted a combo? For the hot dog vendor, this means having the right mix of drinks available to make everyone happy. Here's how to decide on what drinks to sell on your hot dog cart.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hot Dog Cart
  • Hot Dog Vending Business
  1. Step 1

The most basic need for drinks on a hot dog cart is water. The 12 or 16 ounce bottles are easy to sell to hot dog customers and an universal product. Charge a buck or two (with a wholesale price of a quarter or thirty cents) and your profit at your hot dog carts immediately increases.

  2. Step 2

Soda pop can be sold at your hot dog carts. When you consider what types of soda to sell, bear in mind people are finicky about their soda pop. They either like or hate certain types and there are those folks who only drink diet (doesn't matter what type of diet but only diet.) For your soda decision divide out 25% of the drinks being diet, another 20 percent of the soda with no caffeine (7-up & Sprite) and the other 45% of the remaining Coca-Cola and Pepsi products.

  3. Step 3

With the exception of water, don't purchase off brand soda or drinks to sell at your hot dog carts. These will be a complete turn off and burn your customer base quickly. Everyone knows you pay a quarter for a can of Walmart soda. Turn around and sell it to a customer for a buck and they will be enraged - never to buy from you again.

  4. Step 4

Consider some lemonade or punch drinks if you are in a location where your hot dog cart that has families. For example a local vendor here sits out in front of the Museum of Art. He carries lemonade for the kids as usually the entire family will buy a hot dog and drink for lunch to avoid the high prices of the cafeteria.
