Things You'll Need:
- 1 lb lean ground meat (beef or turkey work the best)
- 1 box of whole wheat thin spaghetti noodles
- 1 jar spaghetti sauce. Go for the cheap stuff, but get one that's kind of chunky, (I prefer Prego)
- 1 6 oz can plain tomato sauce
- 2 tbs capers
- 2 tbs chopped black olives
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp powdered onion
- 1/2 tsp dried parsley
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
-
Step 1
Heat a medium pot over medium heat. Break up the ground meat into the pot once it's warm. Add the garlic, onion powder, parsley, oregano, salt and pepper. Mix well and cook, stirring often, over medium heat until meat is cooked through. Drain, do not rinse.
-
Step 2
Return the meat to the pot. Turn heat to medium-high. Add spaghetti sauce and tomato sauce. Stir well. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce reaches a boil. Turn down to a simmer. Add the capers and black olives. Cover the mixture and let simmer 10 minutes. Stir occasionally while simmering.
-
Step 3
While the sauce is simmering, heat a pot 2/3 full of water and 1/2 tsp salt over high heat. When it reaches a rolling boil, add spaghetti noodles to the water and boil according to the directions. Usually 5-8 minutes or so. Keep stirring the noodles and check them often by pinching one to see if they are overdone. Do not overcook. Drain immediately.
-
Step 4
Put a big helping of noodles on a plate, add lots of sauce, and top with a few shakes of parmesan cheese if you'd like. Cheers!
