Being a working woman while pregnant is hard--especially during the first trimester when morning sickness is at it's worst. For many women, morning sickness is actually all day sickness and can interfere with work and other obligations. There are only a limited number of sick days to take, so what can you do?

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Morning sickness due to pregnancy
  • Job
  • Small snacks
  • Fluids
  • Washcloths
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Makeup
  • Lip balm
  1. Step 1

Take small bites of the grain group throughout the day. This means crackers, biscuits, pretzels, muffins, and rice cakes. Eating may feel like the last thing you want to do, but it is important to keep a little something in your belly at all times.

  2. Step 2

Pack your own lunch. If you typically go out to eat for lunch or grab something at the cafeteria, it can be very hard to find something tolerable for your rolling stomach. Most fast food is high in fat which is very hard for you to digest and will make you even more nauseated.

  3. Step 3

Don't eat around other people. Avoid cafeterias and break rooms. Other people are not on the verge of vomiting and will probably be eating large, greasy meals. Skip the embarrassing scenario of vomiting in front of them and eat by yourself.

  4. Step 4

Remember to stay hydrated. Throughout the work day, take sips of water or ginger ale throughout the day. (When buying ginger ale, make sure it has real ginger in it and not just a bunch of sugar. Ginger helps relieve nausea.) You can also sip on soup or a smoothie as a great way to keep nutrients coming without eating a heavy meal.

  5. Step 5

Pack yourself a clean up kit in case you should get sick. Bring damp washcloths in plastic baggies to wipe your mouth, toothpaste and a toothbrush, and makeup and lip balm to reapply before getting back to work.

  6. Step 6

Remember that the morning sickness will go away! After the baby is born, you will be telling yourself that it was all worth it!
