How to Ship CDs Safely in the Mail

That is because so many times if you don't ship the CD's in the correct packaging or though the correct mail system they end up broken and mangled by the time they reach their destination. Use bubble wrap envelopes. Instead of mailing your CD's in a regular envelope, you should choose instead to send it in a bubble wrap envelope. These envelopes can be found either at the post office or any number of office supply shops. In fact, they can be found anywhere envelopes are sold. They have the extra bubble wrap padding built right into the envelope to keep all CD's safe during shipping.

Send CD's in a box. If you are still concerned that your CD's may be damaged even in a bubble wrapped package, you could choose to pack them in a box. Start by getting a box that is about double the size of the CD's and wrap the CD with newspaper, bubble wrap or brown wrapping paper found at moving stores. Put down a few pieces of paper first and then place the CD's on it and then pack it in with even more paper or bubble wrap. Make sure that all the extra paper is put in there firmly to keep the CD safe during shipping.

Use a jewel case. You should never send any CD without some kind of covering. Even the paper covering will not keep a CD safe during shipping. That is why it is recommended that you send your CD's in a jewel case which is a hard plastic case that will protect your CD's from scratches and damages during shipping. These can be picked up anywhere CD's are sold.

Send CD's First Class mail. Many people assume that the best way to ship CD's is through Media Mail or Priority Mail. Not only is it more expensive to ship this way, but it also takes longer, especially in the case of Media Mail. That gives the CD more time to be damaged as it goes through several more people and processing offices than if you ship it first class mail. First class mail usually arrives within a few days to a week and can be sent with any kind of envelope or box.

Optical media discs (CD, DVD, BlueRay, etc.) are "rigid" and do not qualify for shipment by USPS First-Class, which is now only available for envelopes. Optical media discs must be sent at least as small packages (no greater than 1 foot for any dimension) by Parcel Post or Media Mail. The price for Media Mail is less than half the price of Parcel Post. And, it's the same price for any size up to 12"x12" and up to 1 pound (currently $2.47). So, if you have to save as much as possible, wrap up the disc neat and tight, shove it in a 12"x12" box, and stuff it with as much balled up junk mail as 1 pound will allow, and hope for the best. If you want less risk and/or faster shipping, don't go with Parcel Post. It's actually cheaper to use a priority mail small flat-rate box (currently $5.35). Not just cheaper, it's usually faster, comes with a free box to use, and the boxes, postage, and pickup request can all be ordered online for free.
