Many people think that the only resources available for homeschooling are workbooks or curriculum. If they would just look at the Internet a little closer they would see the wealth of information and activities that they can use for homeschooling. The internet has grown and developed so much and I believe that it is going to get even bigger and better in the future.

After reviewing many web sites for a book I was writing, about using the Internet for homeschooling, I came up with these observations:

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go all over the world from your home. Unless you are a world traveler or have unlimited wealth, you will never be able to visit as many places as you can see on the Internet. There are virtual and pictorial tours of foreign countries, museums, homes and parks all over the Internet.

  2. Step 2

Check out the animals, plants and science experiments you will never be able to see in a lifetime. On the Internet you can find a picture of practically every animal or plant on earth. You can also view Science experiments and demonstrations of scientific phenomenon that many people don't even know exist.

  3. Step 3

Investigate things online that you can't find in books or on television. You can find many interactive quizzes and courses online - everything from playing an instrument, learning a foreign language, and interacting with maps can be found online.

  4. Step 4

Save money on homeschooling by using the Internet. You can use the Internet to supplement the books that you already have. If money is really tight you can trade some of your time for money and put together a course or program exclusively from online investigation. There are many courses and programs that you can use for free. Your children might even learn more by interacting with a program online than from a book or lecture.

  5. Step 5

Throw away your old ideas that the Internet is too complicated or difficult to use. Explore the Internet with your child and see all the places and resources you can use to make this your best homeschool year yet.
