Shopping for a Bluetooth can be intimidating.
Shopping for a Bluetooth can be intimidating.

The hands free convenience and ease of operation of wireless headsets accomplished with the technology known as "Bluetooth", has the futuristic cell phone accessory sales on the rise. With every company under the sun jumping into the ever increasing market, the product line is flooded with all types, colors, and styles. The prospective buyer is faced with features such as multi point, voice recognition, noise reduction, and voice pickup. The task of finding the right one for your ear can be daunting.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, you must decide the purpose of your Bluetooth. Is this for driving only or will it be for use while walking the dog? Will it be used in a crowd or other noisy area? Before heading to the cell phone store or the internet, have a good idea in mind of what you are looking for from your Bluetooth.

  2. Step 2

Talk to friends about their experiences. Find out the model # and manufacturer of their products and take note of the good and the bad. Get online to read reviews - cnet.com offers some of the best reviews and also offers user reviews.

  3. Step 3

Go shop. Talk to the cell phone store clerks. They are sure to have their own opinions and any information can be useful. Just don't let them talk you into purchasing anything until you are ready.

  4. Step 4

When you are ready to make the purchase, be sure the store offers a good return policy. The one certain thing regarding Bluetooth earpieces is that no one of them fits the bill for all of us. A good store will offer a 30 day, no questions asked, return policy. (Of course this makes you wonder what they do with the used earpiece with a little extra wax on it...)

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure your phone is Bluetooth enabled. Some older models don't have Bluetooth technology.
  • Keep your receipt to be sure the return (if necessary) is accepted.
  • Get as much info as possible before venturing into the store.
