Things You'll Need:
- Ribbon in width and color of choice scissors
-
Step 1
Cut a 10-inch piece of 1 1/2-inch-wide ribbon and tie a knot in the center for a medium size bow. Cut a 6-to-8-inch piece of 1/2-inch-wide ribbon for a small bow and 15-to-18-inch piece of 3 inches wide or more for large size bows.
-
Step 2
Pull about two yards of ribbon from the spool. Grasp ribbon between your thumb and forefinger about 5 inches from the end for a small bow. You will hold the ribbon at 8 to 10 inches for the medium bow or 14 inches from the end for a large bow. Form a loop. This should be about 2 1/2 inches long (small), 4 to 5 inches (medium) or 6 to 8 inches long (large).
-
Step 3
Twist ribbon and form a second loop opposite the first. Twisting keeps the right side of ribbon to the front.
-
Step 4
Continue to twist ribbon and make loops. A small bow can be made up of six to 10 loops; medium, six to 10 loops; and up to 10 loops for a large bow.
-
Step 5
Wrap knotted ribbon around the bow that you are holding. Make sure knot is at the center of the front of the bow.
-
Step 6
Tie the ends and pull tightly. Double knot to secure the bow.
-
Step 7
Tie bows on to the items you wish to decorate. Tie a small bow on to the center front of a medium bow in a different color for an extra festive look.
