How to unlock the iPhone 3G using yellowsn0w

The iPhone 3G is an amazing smart phone with a lot of potential, but a lot of that potential is not used. That's where the iPhone Dev Team and their unlock comes into place. The yellowsn0w unlock requires firmware 2.2 to be installed on the iPhone 3G first. After that your iPhone 3G is ready to unlock using the following steps.

Things You'll Need:

• Your iPhone 3G
• Firmware 2.2

1. Before going ahead and unlocking your iPhone 3G be sure your iPhone is properly set-up to use yellowsn0w. First of all you must install firmware 2.2 on your iPhone 3G through iTunes. To make use of yellowsnow and unlock your iPhone your iPhone must be jailbroken first otherwise it will be impossible to unlock.
   
   After making sure those steps are followed you must also turn off the 3G network on your iPhone 3G. Do this by going to settings, general then network and turn off the 3G network. Finally, before starting the unlock with yellowsn0w you must also turn off your iPhones GPS. Do thos by going to settings then general then turning off location services.

   Now you are ready to begin the yellowsn0w unlocking process. First connect to a Wi-Fi network and then take out the iPhone 3G SIM card (AT&T) then insert the third party SIM card you want to use (T-Mobile, Sprint etc).

   Open the Cydia App (the jailbroken iPhone app)then go to manage, then sources, then edit, then add. Type the address “http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com” and press add. Proceed to search and type in the work "yellow." Go to the bottom and look for the yellowsn0w app under the section "Y" then proceed to install the app. After the yellowsn0w app is done installing go back to the Cydia app and exit out.

   Now that step is complete go to settings, then general, then reset, then reset network settings. Wait for it to take you to the home screen. Then do a reset of your iPhone 3G by simply holding the home as well as the sleep-wake button at the same time and wait for the Apple logo. Boot up the iPhone 3G and once you are at the unlock screen wait a about a minute and check your iPhone 3G to be sure everything is working properly. The unlock should be done the signal of your third party sim card should be displayed (ie T-Mobile instead of AT&T).

Tips & Warnings

• Be sure “0″ in sn0w is a ZERO not the letter “O”, this is very vital.
• If the unlock doesn't work try removing the third party sim card and re-inserting it again.
• If that doesn't work try turning on airplane mode then turning it off.
• Unlocking is looked down upon by AT&T so be sure to back up your iPhone 3G if you need to take it back to Apple for repairs.
