Cut a Ball in Billiards
Cut a Ball in Billiards

This article will give you a detailed guide to cut a ball while shooting pool opening your range of shots.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Billiards Table
  • Cue Stick
  • Billiards Balls
  1. Step 1

Cutting a ball in a game of pool is probably the most challenging shot to pull off. A cut is defined as hitting the target ball with the cue ball at an angle to send the target ball in a different direction.

  2. Step 2
Lining up with the target ball
Lining up with the target ball

Cutting a ball requires a good eye, to help develope this, it is a good idea before you shoot to take your cue stick and act like you are going to hit your target ball into the pocket. This gives the exact location where you will want to hit the target ball with the cue ball.

  3. Step 3
Lining the cue ball up with the Target Ball

Next you'll want to line the cue ball up with the spot on the target ball that will send the target ball into the desired pocket.

  4. Step 4

Then just shoot, once you've shot you'll have one of 3 outcomes either you cut to much and missed, didn't cut enough and missed, or cut just right and put the ball in the pocket. As shown with this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyPht8VI7S4

  5. Step 5

Then just practice, and as they all say practice makes perfect. Cutting can be difficult but in the end it pays off, so good luck and have fun!

Tips & Warnings
  • Always line a shot up before you shoot
  • Don't let your mind deceive you, if the shot lines up with the stick then it will work, trust your eyes not your brain!
