Chocolate covered cherries are my most favorite candy. Recently I have found a new recipe for Chocolate Covered Amaretto Cherries.

My office has been so glum lately I thought of bringing these in as a little pick me up.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Jar of Maraschino Cherries
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • Amaretto to taste
  • Chocolate
  1. Step 1

    DRAIN YOUR JAR OF CHERRIES

First, I should mention that if you get cherries with stems you can easily dip them in chocolate. If you get cherries that don't have stems you can stick a toothpick through them and dip them in chocolate. This is a personal preference.

  2. Step 2

    ADD SOME SUGAR

3 Tablespoons of sugar will be just enough. Close the lid and shake the cherries around with the sugar. It will take a few shakes just to get the cherries covered up.

  3. Step 3

    ADD AMARETTO

I filled the jar to cover the cherries in Amaretto. Again, this is your preference. (I don't want to waste good Amaretto, so I plan on using my leftover cherry juice and Amaretto in my Saturday morning coffee.)

Close your jar and shake it well. Make sure all cherries are covered with the Amaretto.

  4. Step 4

    LET THE CHERRIES SOAK OVERNIGHT

Give the jar a shake in passing if you would like to. It's not necessary.

  5. Step 5

COVER THE CHERRIES IN CHOCOLATE - PREPARING YOUR CHERRIES

Take the cherries out of the jar. Lay them on a paper towel so they can drain.

Again, you can save the Amaretto cherry juice for your coffee.

  6. Step 6

COVER THE CHERRIES IN CHOCOLATE - GETTING YOUR CHOCOLATE

Choose the chocolate you would like to dip the cherries in. You may want to buy a large Hershey bar, or chocolate Easter bunny and melt it in your microwave. It should not take that much chocolate to dip a jar of cherries.

  7. Step 7

COVER THE CHERRIES IN CHOCOLATE - MELTING YOUR CHOCOLATE

Melt your chocolate in the microwave. In a glass bowl in 35 second intervals. Stir each time. (If you use a plastic spoon you can use it to stir your coffee or cocoa when you're done)

Your chocolate will need to be smooth and easy to stir.

  8. Step 8

COVER THE CHERRIES IN CHOCOLATE - DIP THEM IN CHOCOLATE

Dip the cherries in chocolate, either by the stem or using a toothpick. Just twirl the excess chocolate off and place the chocolate covered cherries on a a plate lined with wax paper.

Once you're done dipping the cherries in chocolate, place the plate in the refrigerator so the chocolate can set up. It should take about 20 minutes.

  9. Step 9

    ENJOY!!!

You can enjoy the cherries or share them with a friend who needs a pick me up.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use brandy, or some other alcohol.
