Homemade icing is so much better than store bought. Cream cheese icing is very simple to make. It is made with cream cheese, powdered sugar, butter and vanilla. Not only is it easy to make, it is also not very expensive to make! Follow these simple steps to make a cream cheese icing. You won't be disappointed!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 8 oz. package of softened cream cheese
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 stick of softened butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  1. Step 1

    Sit your cream cheese and butter on the counter about 1/2 hour prior to mixing. This should give it enough time to soften.

  2. Step 2

    In a large mixing bowl, add 1 - 8 oz. package of cream cheese (softened) and 1/2 stick of butter (softened). Beat with mixer on low speed until mixed well.

  3. Step 3

    Slowly add 2 cups of powdered sugar to the mixture. Add a little bit and then mix, continue until all powdered sugar has been added.

  4. Step 4

    Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla to icing, beat until well mixed.

  5. Step 5

    If you would like to color your icing, you can add the food coloring of your choice and beat in.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cream cheese icing is great on spice cakes, carrot cakes & strawberry cakes.
  • Remember to let your cupcakes or cake cool completely before icing.
