Things You'll Need:
- super sticky PostIt notepads
- pen, pencil, writing utensil of sorts
- possibly a cell phone (as long as it has some kind of feature to place text and save)
- possibly a nifty voice recorder
-
Step 1
I find that sometimes, I have my best ideas at night when I'm getting ready to fall asleep or I wake up from a dream with the idea. This is when you'll want to have some trusty super sticky PostIt notepads around. Flip on the light for a moment, or use a book light if needed and jot your idea down on your pad and then commence sleeping once you're sure you've got enough down to remind you when you wake for the next day. If you're out and about and choose to take PostIt's with you instead of a phone or a voice recorder (which I'll give info on soon,) then you'll want to jot your idea down and stick it to the inside of your purse or wallet so that you'll see it when you get home and take your receipts out from shopping.
-
Step 2
If you're out and about and really want to remember something for an article, you'll want to use your cell phone to record this idea. Most phones offer a note pad, things to do list, a way to send yourself an e-mail or text message or even a way to record your own voice. Either of these will work and are very useful. Label your information so that you don't get lost when you go back for your information.
-
Step 3
If you don't have a cell phone that can record audio, maybe you have another device that can do so. I've noticed that many "as seen on TV" items usually offer a "free with shipping" recorder and you may have one of these. If not, they can be purchased for a minimal amount. These are great when you're on the fly or just plain ol' busy and don't feel like writing your information down. You can get something that's very cheap and it'll do what you need it to as well as getting something more expensive that could record more information...this helps if you'd rather talk your ideas out and transcribe them later. What a lifesaver!

on 4/10/2009 I'm with ManyMusings ... postcards are great. But after reading this article, I checked my cell phone and found that not only do I have a notepad, but it is searchable, too. Wow, I've had this all along, go figure! Thanks, I'm thrilled to know this.
