Here is a quick step-by-step method for recording a cool song.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • some soul
  • a little passion
  • microphone
  • recording software
  1. Step 1

Step one is be sure to set the tempo, and turn on the metronome. This will make important edits you might need to make later much easier, since you will know that all of your music is right on tempo, even if you haven't included a rhythm track first.

  2. Step 2

Step two, the main key, is to press record and just go with your instinct. Let your spirit guide you and just let out what you feel. If you are singing, just forget about the microphone and sing your heart out. If it's the guitar you're recording first, just let it all hang out, and if you feel like busting out a guitar solo, just go for it. Don't over-think anything.

  3. Step 3

Now that you have your rockin' soul track, you can start to build the layers of the song over it. You can use MIDI or sampled wave files to build a rhythm for your song, and be as creative as you wanna be.

  4. Step 4

The final stage is mixing everything down so that it sound nice through different speakers and headphones. When you get all the levels just right you are ready to share your cool song with the world!

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember - the important thing is just to 'feel it'... use your recording as an outlet for your internal passion...

on 6/10/2009 Your recording software should have a metronome option that can be turned on, then turned off after you record, so you won't be hearing the metronome in your recording.

on 6/6/2009 The metronome is a great tip, I haven't use it, but it is a graet idea. I will try next time I write something...
