Ugg Boots

If you own a pair of Ugg Boots, chances are you love them! These sheepskin boots keep your feet warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The boots are fun, comfortable, and stylish, and they often help to set your mood. Although these sheepskin boots are much more than a typical pair of boots or shoes, care for your Uggs is a delicate process. If you take care of your Ugg Boots, they will provide you with years of comfortable wear. Here is some ways that you can get many years out of your boots.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ugg Repellent Spray
  • Ugg Shampoo Conditioner
  • A Shoe Brush
  • Paper Towels
  1. Step 1
    Dirty Boots

First, it is important to note that Ugg Boots are somewhat fragile, and need appropriate care for years of life. You should use an appropriate cleaner and repellant to care for your Uggs (see resource below). While Ugg boots are comfortable, they are not work boots, snow boots, or boots that will protect your feet in industrial settings. Thus, care for your boots appropriately and they will keep your feet warm and comfortable for many years to come.

  2. Step 2
    Boot Clean Kit

Ugg boots are fabulous, but not water proof. The first thing you should do is waterproof your new boots with with a water repellant, such as Ugg Water Repellant spray. This will protect yor boots from many household spills, dirt, and water. It will help to keep your boots looking new, and it will increase the life of your boots. Just spray your boots and allow to dry. Keep in mind that you will have to reapply the waterproofing to your boots if, and when they get wet.

  3. Step 3

Removing stains such as oil can be removed from scrapping some powder from white chalk over the stain, and letting it set into the stain on your boots. Rub and blow away the excess chalk off your boots after a few minutes. You may have to repeat the process, until the chalk soaks up the oil. For more difficult stains, you may use some fine sand paper to rub the stain off your boots. However, be careful not to take off the color off of your boots by rubbing too hard or for too long.

  4. Step 4

If you need to wash your boots, use cold water and the UGG Shampoo and Conditioner. You can use a soft brush, such as an old tooth brush to help clean your boots. After you wash your boots, rinse them in cold water, and put them in your washing machine on spin cycle for a few minutes to get rid of excess water.

Once you have the excess water out of your boots, stuff paper towels soak up the water and let them set to dry. Do not dry in an oven, dryer, or use a hair dryer. Keep them out of the sunlight. Your boots will shrink slightly, but that is normal. Once you put them on, your boots will stretch out again.

  5. Step 5

Once your boots are dry, brush the suede with a show brush to rise the nap. Your boots should look new again.

  6. Step 6

Over time, your boots may develop an oder. This will happen faster, if you do not wear socks when wearing your boots (as I did). Although the sheepskin boots make it for a tempting place to keep your bare feet warm, resist the temptation! However, if you do, you can remove the oder with some household products. Mix together 2 tbs. of baking soda and 2tbs. of corn flour with a few drops of a nice scented essential oil. Pour into your boots, shake, and let the mixture sit overnight. Shake out your boots the next morning, and your Ugg Boots will be fresh and ready to go.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear socks in your boots.
  • Pack with paper towels when wet to help shape your boots.
  • Always allow your boots to dry naturally.
  • Do not machine wash your boots.
  • No harsh detergent, fabric softeners, or cleaning chemicals should ever be used on your boots.
  • Do not dry clean your boots.

on 2/26/2009 All sheepskin ugg boots should be cleaned according to the manufacturer's instructions. Mine actually go through the washing machines but I understand that UGG Australia boots need to be spot cleaned. There's more information at http://www.snugboots.co.uk/sheepskin_care.html and I also suggest that you spray your boots with a protective suede spray regularly.
